13.3.1: What is Action 2020
While Vision 2050 outlined a pathway towards sustainable development, it was quickly realized that to scale up the private sector effort and get it on track globally, a framework for concrete action that was directly aimed at business was needed.
The WBCSD initiated Action 2020 as the primary platform for businesses to help the world achieve a sustainable future. It did this by setting an agenda and offering a framework for the business community to voluntarily take concrete and measurable steps towards achieving sustainable development for 2020 and beyond.
Action 2020 works on the idea that business can positively influence environmental and social trends while strengthening their own resilience to issues like climate change, demographic dynamics and skills shortages.
